I don’t make a habit of slagging off people’s ensembles, I leave that to the pros. However, on this one occasion I have to voice my opinion. Hollyoaks is hardly known for creating style icons, but you think the actors might make an effort for a red carpet event in the Big Smoke.
Last night Sarah Barnes (apparently she has a “real name” which is Loui Batley) wore this frankly awful outfit at the Inside Soap Awards. I don’t care if people are not on trend or wearing the latest catwalk looks, but when you try trends and fail miserably it’s just a bit embarrassing.
Sarah was clearly trying to be an edgy style icon, maybe even a Northern Alexa Chung at this event but she falls so short. The smock dress does nothing for her or anybody with boobs, if it was clinched at the waist it could have been acceptable. She then makes it even worse by the trend overload in her lower half – ankle boots AND knee high socks? No. Ankle boots look hot with opaque tights or bare legs (see the aforementioned Alexa) and socks look hot with sandals. Socks + boots = footballers.
What makes this an even more tragic occurrence for Sarah is that she is to be killed off this week in the late night version of the show. RIP Sarah and this awful, AWFUL outfit.
